Client Name: Upgradeable
Niche: eCommerce
Services: Online shopping, computer upgrades, tech support
Website: upgradeable.com.au
Challenges: poor backlink profile, Low site traffic, few keyword ranking
Campaign Period: July 2021 – April 2023
Established in 1989, Upgradeable is an Australian company that specializes in computer upgrades. They have a long history of providing quality products and excellent customer service.
Upgradeable created their first website in 1999. In fact, they are one of the oldest ecommerce websites in Australia that has helped countless Australians extend the life of their computers.
Upgradeable’s website is designed to help people easily find a compatible upgrade for their computers. They have a wide selection of products to choose from, and they offer free shipping on orders over $100.
They also have Australian staff who are available to answer client queries and help with their upgrades. They also offer technical support and help with recommending the right upgrade for people’s needs.
Although they started their ecommerce journey long ago, their backlink profile was not up to par. They had some backlinks but most were from low value websites and some were even spammy. They hired an SEO agency before with a limited budget, and as expected, the outcome was nowhere close to ensure ROI. Their revenue had plateaued, and they were unable to reach and expand their customer base.
This was the status of their website in July, 2021 with 2050 month visitors with 7812 keywords ranked.
We began by conducting a thorough backlink analysis to identify and disavow low-quality and toxic backlinks that were harming the website. This process was essential to prevent any potential Google penalties.
We used advanced SEO tools like Semrush, Ahrefs, and Moz Pro Link Explorer to audit their existing backlinks. This included assessing domain authority, anchor text distribution, and identifying spammy or harmful links. Then we submitted a disavow file to Google Webmaster Tools, requesting the removal of toxic backlinks. Simultaneously, we reached out to webmasters to request link removal where possible.
In the next stage of the link building campaign, we devised a strategy for this Australian e-commerce store after researching the competitors’ top-performing backlinks. For Upgradeable, we mainly focused on guest posting, broken link building, resource page link building, and social media promotion.
Guest Posting
We began by identifying websites and blogs that catered to Upgradeable’s target audience—tech enthusiasts, gamers, and PC builders. We collaborated with these platforms to create guest posts that offered valuable insights into computer hardware, troubleshooting tips, and other relevant topics. These posts not only provided useful information but also included strategically placed backlinks to Upgradeable’s product pages.
Broken Link Building
We utilized various tools to identify broken links on technology-related websites and blogs based in Australia. Once identified, our seasoned link builders reached out to the site owners and offered to replace these broken links with links to their own resourceful and relevant content. This win-win approach benefited both parties: Upgradeable gained valuable backlinks, while the host websites improved their user experience by fixing broken links.
Resource Page Link Building
After compiling a list of high-quality, industry-specific resource pages and contacting the site owners, we showcased Upgradeable’s valuable content and offerings that could be beneficial to their visitors and requested inclusion on their resource pages. By providing genuine value to these websites, we were able to secure backlinks on several resource pages.
Social Media Promotion
Our social media promoters regularly shared their blog posts, product updates, and informative content on various social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. By engaging with the audience and encouraging shares and discussions, Upgradeable amplified its online presence. Additionally, some of its content gained traction and earned natural backlinks from users who found the information valuable.
It took us some time to see noticeable results from our link building campaign because the niche was highly competitive and we had to revamp the site and its SEO strategy in order to make it more Google- and user-friendly. By the end of April, 2023, we were able to secure 35 backlinks from highly authoritative domains like:
Host Website | Domain Authority (DA) |
ubackup.com | 73 |
impulsegamer.com | 57 |
techmediatoday.com | 41 |
techgyo.com | 43 |
Here is a quick rundown of the site’s performance before and after our link building campaign:
Domain Rating (Now) | Traffic Increase by % | Monthly Traffic (Before) | Monthly Traffic (Now) | KW Ranking (Before) | KW Ranking (Now) | Duration | Total Backlinks We Made |
27 | 276% | 2050 | 7700 | 7812 | 15080 | July 21 – Apr 23 | 35 |
As you can see, implementing a well-rounded link building strategy has significantly benefited Upgradeable. Through guest posting, broken link building, resource page link building, and social media promotion, they not only acquired valuable backlinks with our help but also enhanced its online authority, visibility, and brand recognition. By continuing to focus on these strategies and adapting to the ever-evolving digital landscape, Upgradeable remains a strong contender in the competitive Australian ecommerce industry.
